Living the Virtues Series: Honesty with Life

Honesty with Life

How you view life, differs for every single person. Some people define themselves by the virtues they hold highest in esteem. Some people don’t think that hard and go through life just doing what they think is right. Still, others have preconceived notions that whatever it takes for them to succeed, be it lying, cheating, greed, they’ll do it until their success is eminent. Today, I am blogging about honesty as it applies to your life. Honesty with life is an invaluable virtue. Being able to perceive life as it is and not through rose-colored glasses is difficult. You are unique with how you choose to see the world around you.

Your perceptions are an indirect link of the things that you have seen and done throughout your existence. But to be honest about your perceptions of life isn’t always easy. The quote I chose today is from Sir Walter Besant: “I am afraid we must make the world honest before we can honestly say to our children that honesty is the best policy.” Can you truly ask future generations to be honest when the world is at odds with this virtue? Open up a newspaper, read an internet headline, go to a public meeting. No matter where you look, the world is fraught with deception. There is so much dishonesty around us. Some of it is close to us, family members, friends, co-workers. Honesty is being obscured by political leaders, government, religious advocates. No wonder the world is in turmoil. Are we teaching our children and the future of this world that dishonesty is a likeable trait? Absolutely.

It has to start with each individual. That means you. Take a look at how you think, what you say, what you do. Are you being honest in every aspect of your life? How would you apply honesty in your life? What would you change? Honesty is needed to have a foundation on which to build other virtues. When you shift your perceptions and start expressing honesty in every corner of your life then you will begin to see a difference. This will affect change. There is a lyric in a song that says: “let it begin with me.” If you choose to, you can alter the world with positive intention.

If you have read my other blog posts on the virtues then you know that each post comes with affirmations to practice daily. These little phrases of inspiration will get you on a path to being completely honest with life. Your affirmations this week are: “I am going to weed out dishonesty in my life.” “I look forward to having honest conversations with everyone I talk to today.” “Honesty in other people is very appealing to me.” “I choose to be honest and have respect for honesty.” Work on these affirmations this week and you will start to see a change for the better. Honesty with life is important for you, but also for every single person in this world. Thanks for reading. InJoy your day!
