Achieve The Success You Desire

March 04, 2013

As I have helped numerous professional athletes in a variety of sports achieve the success they desire, I have also seen some of them go on to waver in that success.   During my years in private practice and prior to that in other settings, I have studied what helps people achieve great success, along with studying the areas where they struggle with their mental capacities and have difficulties due to unhealthy mindsets.  With the knowledge and information I’ve acquired, I am able to offer you techniques that have been helpful to others so that you can apply them in your own life, to achieve the success you desire.

In order to achieve the success you desire, I have found three main 3 areas of critical importance that are necessary to achieve consistent success.   They are balance, clarity and energy.

Looking at the list, you might ask; “What does balance have to do with success?”  When you spend too much time in one area of your life (like work for example), at the sacrifice of another area of your life, then you are out of balance.  Being out of balance will cause your subconscious self to carry the burden and weight with you from that unbalanced, ‘overworked’ area into other areas of your life.  Carrying that kind of heavy burden can actually hold you back from achieving the level of success you desire and are working so hard for.  So balance is truly important.

Having clarity means that you can answer the questions; “Who am I?  What is important to me?  What stirs my blood and motivates me to do things?  What gives me inspiration so strong that I can overcome any hurdle, obstacle or challenge along the way?”  You must be clear about who you are as a person, what your preferences, beliefs and priorities are, and what you really want out of life.  You can then take the appropriate steps or actions toward achieving the success you desire.

Energy has to do with the level of energy necessary to achieve your highest success.  Do you have the energy necessary to persevere through the obstacles and challenges you will face, as you strive to achieve the success you desire?  As you form a strong belief system within you that knows you are working in alignment with who you are and what is important to you, your energy or level of excitement and commitment will propel you towards achieving great success.

These three areas are what I have found to be the most important for achieving the success you desire.  You need a solid foundation of balance in your life, clarity of purpose, and enough energy to get you where you want to go.  Add to that a wise quote from Mario Andretti, a famous race car driver, who has certainly enjoyed great success throughout his racing career.  The quote comes from “The Wisdom Of The Years”; a great collection of wisdom from famous people and what they decided were the driving forces in their lives.

Mario Andretti said:  “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”

If you break down what Mario said, you will see that desire is very important to motivation.  Going a step further, I can tell you that desire must come from within you in order to achieve success.  I see this all the time as a hypnotherapist, with people who want to quit smoking or break some other habit.  Their level of success and motivation is directly related to their level of desire.  For those people whose spouse wants them to quit smoking, and the spouse even pays for them to get the help they need, they come into my office lacking an internal desire to  make the changes necessary to be able to quit smoking.  The results are astounding.  Their success rates drop significantly from those people who truly have an internal desire to quit.

So what I have personally found in working with clients is that achieving success is only possible for those with their own level of desire to quit smoking – or whatever habit they want to change.   Their success rates explode and the percentage of increase in success is unbelievable.  I see it in other areas as well.  Desire is the key to motivation – but determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – that really sustains your perseverance in achieving the success you desire.

Imagine driving your car like usual and coming across speed bumps in the road that slow you down.  You might then come upon major construction and have to take a detour around it, or find yourself climbing a really high mountain that takes everything your little engine has to climb.  If you do not maintain unwavering determination to get through the many obstacles, bumps, hurdles and mountains that stand between you and the success you desire, you will give up along the way.  It might happen the second you hit the speed bumps, or when you get frustrated taking the construction detour.  Or maybe you get through those obstacles, but then it happens when you start to think the mountain is too high or hard to climb.  You will give up if you feel like it is too difficult to go through all of that, and you will not achieve the success you desire.

This example is identical for achieving success with any goal you may set.  Your level of determination is going to make or break any goal you desire.  If you lack the desire, you will go nowhere.  If you have desire but lack determination or commitment as the bumps, hurdles and challenges come along, you will find that you are ready to quit or ‘pull the plug’ at the first sign of struggle.  You might say: “This isn’t going to work.,” “I can’t do this,” or “This is a failure and won’t amount to anything.”  You might even tell people:  “I tried and it’s just not going anywhere.”  I have seen this happen, but it does not have to be your story.  If you identify your desire and commit yourself to seeking it with an ‘unrelenting pursuit’, you can achieve the success you desire.

Every one of us has a different level of determination and commitment when striving for success.  If you have a high level of determination and commitment, you will hang in there longer and work through more challenges.  I can tell you from my own success, and many of the elite athletes I have worked with, you have to get back up on that horse when you feel like you have fallen off.  When you do, try to look for what you learned about why you fell off in the first place.  Feel like you can gain knowledge from the so called “failure” and see how you might learn something important that you can apply, to take yourself to a whole new level.  Rather than getting upset about the setback, use it to help you accelerate and excel even more.  The greatest achievements happened after several “failed” attempts along the way.

If you think about the invention of the automobile, light bulb, the telephone…not one of those things just showed up overnight.  Their success came after repeated attempts or what some would say “repeated failures.”  I encourage you to think in terms of attempts and lessons learned, and not failures.  You can gain lots of knowledge and information to apply on your road to success from them.  It is all really important.  If you do not look at it that way, you will find yourself in a continual struggle or always looking for ‘more’.  You might feel like you are not good enough or that what you are doing will not amount to anything.  That kind of attitude will not help you achieve the level of success you desire.

So desire is the key to motivation, but it is the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will ultimately bring you the success you desire.  As you strive to achieve great success, you must start looking at your determination and level of commitment.  You will not have the necessary level of determination and commitment if your desire is not there.  Desire might be absent if you are unclear about your goal or if it is not really a priority to you.  Something must be important to you for you to spend time on it, to have a personal desire behind it, for it to inspire you and tap into who you are.  It must include your preferences and beliefs and represent an important use of your time.  All of these components together; desire, determination, commitment, perseverance, your goal and your personal beliefs, are absolutely necessary for you to achieve the success you desire.

So as you consider your goals and the commitments you plan to make, please remember that you need clarity about who you are first before you can think about achieving any success.  You must have the desire from within to reach whatever you aspire to achieve, and it must come from you personally.   Work hard to maintain a healthy balance in your life on your road to success, and do your best to maintain the highest level of energy possible.  Determination and commitment will help get you through your day to day struggles, but you must stay true to yourself.  If you do, you cannot help but achieve the success you desire.

I hope you find this information helpful, and I look forward to the opportunity to help you personally achieve the success you desire.  Please contact me for further information, assistance or additional tips on building a life filled with success.  I truly believe it is possible for you to achieve the success you desire, and hope you have an amazing day!
