I just completed 201.4 of the Optimal Clay Shooter's Mind Game Mastery. I found this lesson to be a real eye-opener for me! As an RN, I thought I had a good handle on how to manage stress and anxiety, and how it manifests in our bodies. But I neglected to think about the "perceived" threats that create the very SAME physiologic reactions as "real" threats. I am guilty as charged! I harbor a multitude of fear-based thoughts and perceptions, that trigger and feed the Fight or Flight Response, and inhibit peak performance (in shooting and in life). Increased heart rate, shaking hands, muscle tension. In shooting, I experience these symptoms primarily at competitions. Once I relax and let go of my unfounded fears, I can be more engaged and attentive. In life, thoughts of certain social situations can elicit the same unfounded fears. Once I'm there, (if I don't cancel, lol) I'm perfectly fine!
Learning and utilizing the tools to combat these negative thoughts and fears is what Dawn is all about! Onward and upward.....

"I have completed 201.1 of Optimal Clay Shooter's Mind Game Mastery! I was excited to utilize the tools in my "invisible tool belt" since I was shooting the Northeast Regionals this weekend. I used deep breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 to take the edge off before competing. Since I was shooting the 8am rotation on Saturday, I got there early, listened to my audio tape, warmed-up, was ready to rock and roll. It poured during our rotation! Ugh. I was soaked, dejected, wet feet, couldnt keep the rain off my glasses. I did NOT have the proper raincoat, umbrella, or clothing. I did, however, learn a lesson in humility. Staying present, and being prepared for anything, including the weather. Being able to calm your mind and body, no matter the circumstances.
I am anxious to proceed with the next lesson in module 2! Learning how to focus, and locking in on targets. Onward and Upward!!!!!!!!"

Completed 101.3 of Clay Shooters Mind Mastery! I now have a better understanding of what "Trust it" or "Letting Go" means. I have always understood the concept, but never knew exactly how to be able to do so. Quiet the conscious mind by mindful deep breathing, 5-4-3-2-1, reinforcing this concept by regularly listening to the 20 minute hypnosis audio, and being mindful and present.
Recently I found myself in the "Zone" while competing. I was shooting 5 stand, which I love to do. I felt like I was in my own little world, only focused on the targets on my menu. I was relaxed, yet aggressive. Taking a deep breath prior to each pair, and just shooting each target, although I had a dump of adrenaline on the last stand. Every break was center punched! I ran that 5 stand!
I find it easier to focus on the 5 stand, where you can blot out the people behind you. This is harder to do in Sporting where the pairs are repeated (allowing my concious mind to be bored!), there are golf carts going by, people talking and watching. I'm excitedly looking forward to applying the concepts I've learned thus far, and future concepts. Thank you Dawn!!
