IN TODAY’S WORLD, EVERYONE WE KNOW IS ON A SELF-HELP KICK. WHAT DO YOU DO WEEKLY TO HELP YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE?
It’s easy to get sucked in and think that we have to do everything perfectly. Truth is, there are five habits you can adopt right now, and do weekly to vastly boost your quality of life.
IT DOESN’T TAKE MUCH, BUT IMPLEMENTING THESE HABITS INTO YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW CAN START TO MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. HERE THEY ARE:
PLAN SOMETHING FUN, AND THINK AHEAD TO IT
Get your calendars out. Make sure that you plan something fun to do this week. What are you really passionate about? Do you enjoy something that you haven’t let yourself do because you’re “too busy?” Dust off the skis and go have a day on the slopes. Get out your yoga mat and try out a new class. Plan drinks with friends this Friday night. Whatever you choose, make sure it is something you’ll be looking forward to all week. When we have something to look forward to, it may be the difference between a mundane week or a more tolerable one.
MAKE ALL YOUR BIG DECISIONS ON ONE DAY
It may be more manageable for you to just pick one day when you need to stress. There are some decisions that you can put off, and be better for it. If there are a lot of things going through your mind, take a step back. Decide on a day every week that you can really devote to hashing out all of these important decisions. This way, you won’t need to stress over them daily. You can simply tell yourself that the problem will be dealt with at a later time. Many find this strategy helpful in business because we aren’t constantly burning at both ends. We stop burning ourselves out with worry and have more time to rationally feel in our hearts what is right.
TAKE A DAY OFF FROM TECHNOLOGY
We’re always glued to our devices, that’s for sure. There is so much to think about from the information that comes across that little screen. Say goodbye to your high-speed data plan, and say hello to your inner yogi. Of course, it’s a little drastic to totally say goodbye but take a break. Try setting time limits on your devices, or take a day or two each week to go without. The fewer things you have to think about on your phone means the more space to be present and enjoy life!
READ SOMETHING INSPIRING EVERY WEEK
Take some time to read some inspirational words. Read books that feed your soul, and remind you how to live. Subscribe to pages on social media that post uplifting stuff. Hang your favorite quotes where you can see them. Doing this means reinforcing the love that is already in your heart. We simply need to be reminded, sometimes, what really matters. It is often the case that when we read the uplifting and inspirational material, we see the world as less cold. Smile, this globe is a beautiful place!
SPEND TIME EVERY WEEK TO NOTICE YOUR THOUGHTS, INSTEAD OF GETTING SUCKED IN
Our minds are perfect at creating so many disasters that are just fantasy. The reality is so much kinder than the little dialogues racing through our brains. At any given moment, we have a choice to step back. A choice to step back and be an observer of our thoughts, not a mindless victim. The next time you find yourself stressing over what a gal said about you at the office, watch the dialogue. Your mind will invariably race and start asking, “What are people thinking about me?” “Will she slash my tires?” All of these can easily be let go when we just focus on what is actually happening rather than get whooshed into the whole exhausting shebang of thought. If it would be helpful for you, write down your worries on a piece of paper and destroy it weekly. This inward intention can and will manifest as a clearer mind – once you look at it
