Dawn Grant (00:00)
Hello folks, welcome to Mind Mastered Secrets of Excellence. This is Dawn Grant, welcome back. Thank you for all of your feedback and for following and for being here today. I'm sure like you, I love learning about people and love learning about the secrets of their success. And we all have challenges, we're all human, but interestingly enough, a lot of the challenges we face as humans are similar. They might have

different details and specifics, but the umbrellas and the overall gist of what we face as humans and how to overcome some of those things ends up being a lot of the same issues over and over again. And, you know, looking at different people and how they've come across their own challenges and have found ways to succeed is such a good and insightful conversation. So I have Andrea Beeman here.

with me today, or with us today, and she's had a great journey, an inspiring journey, ⁓ and she's now into natural, wholesome eating and foods and nutrition and health and wellness and all those great things, but because of her own challenges and her own successes. So ⁓ let's learn from Andrea today. Thank you, Andrea, for being here.

Andrea Beaman (01:26)
Well, thanks for having me, Dawn. I'm very excited to talk about health. It's one of my favorite topics. ⁓ And I would have never thought that I'd ever say that. Yeah, because I was probably one of the most unhealthy people that you could meet when I was growing up. Standard American diet, chronic dieter, ⁓ sourly swish fudge cookies and coffee all day long. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (01:36)
⁓ okay.

Oh, flashbacks. Yes, that's what

was in the lunch boxes. Yes. Oh, you remember that wax chocolate on the outside, it's like a waxy coating and you had to like scrape it off the top of your mouth. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I can relate and I love going back to like this timeline of where all this began for a person and.

Andrea Beaman (01:56)
That's right.

Yeah, crazy, crazy, crazy food.

Dawn Grant (02:19)
And yeah, I didn't realize that you would have thought that you were like the worst of the worst and now have come so far.

Andrea Beaman (02:26)
yeah, drinking, smoking, partying. I mean, you name it, working at MTV networks, know, like just debauchery at every turn. ⁓ But, you know, a series of events happened that pushed my trajectory in a different way, right? I took a different path. And the first was when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. ⁓ the first time that she was diagnosed, it was in the 1980s.

Dawn Grant (02:28)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (02:55)
And back then they did something called a radical mastectomy where they took off the breast and they took off all the lymph nodes and she had scar tissue everywhere. And then she did radiation and chemotherapy. And after five years, right? Cause that was the window. If you make it through this five year window, you're considered cancer free. So she made it to her five year window and all was good. But 11 years later,

She fainted in the bathroom and we were like, what the heck happened? She thought she was overworked. She was feeling dizzy. So the ambulance came and picked her up and took her to the hospital. And we found out that the breast cancer, even though she no longer had the breast or the lymph nodes or anything like that, and she was considered cancer free, the breast cancer had now, it's now migrated into her bones, her brains, her lung, her liver. It was everywhere in her entire body.

Dawn Grant (03:50)
⁓

Andrea Beaman (03:50)
So, you we did the traditional route again, chemotherapy, radiation, we followed the doctor's orders. But my dad had read an article about this doctor that had healed his pancreatic cancer of all things, which is like pancreatic cancer, you get that diagnosis, that's, you know, start making, say goodbye to everybody, gather the family, like that kind of stuff. But he had...

Dawn Grant (04:10)
Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (04:16)
Yeah, I can't say cured his pancreatic cancer. He had healed his condition. He had gone from a six month window of life diagnosis, right? You have six months to live from his doctor friends. ⁓ He changed his diet and his lifestyle and he lived for 10 years. So my dad had read that book. It was by a Dr. Hugh Faulkner. ⁓ And he said, Hey, let's try this with mom.

Dawn Grant (04:35)
⁓ nice.

Andrea Beaman (04:42)
So I was like, okay, yeah, it sounds good. Cancer came back, she didn't have the breast, she didn't have the node, she had nothing, how did it come back? So we ⁓ changed her diet and changed her lifestyle and started following this, in the 90s, it was the macrobiotic diet. And we started following this diet and we noticed that her color came back to her cheeks and she had a brightness in her eyes and her lips were no longer pale.

Dawn Grant (04:57)
Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (05:08)
⁓ so it gave her a little bit of life. wasn't enough life to bring her back from the treatments of breast cancer, right? The chemotherapy, it wasn't enough to bring her back. She died about 18 months later, but, it was enough to plant in me a seed. If anything happens to me, I'm going.

Dawn Grant (05:17)
Mm.

Mm-hmm.

Andrea Beaman (05:30)
So that diet and lifestyle first before anything destructive to my body, before taking off an organ, putting chemicals and poison into my body, I'm going to do this route. So I went, after my mom died, I went back to my lifestyle, which was debauchery and drinking and partying and eating all the crap that you could imagine. And then when I was 28 years old, I was diagnosed with a thyroid disease and I had a large goiter. It was a big, thick...

Dawn Grant (05:32)
Mm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Okay, okay.

Andrea Beaman (05:59)
I wish I would have brought one of my books in here. It was a big, thick, goiter, know, sticking like, yeah, it was totally sexy. They called me the neck. And I said, you know, I went to the doctor and the doctor said, listen, you have this thyroid condition and you need to take radioactive iodine and then be on this medication for the rest of your life. And I was like, doc, I'm not taking radioactive anything. I'm going to change my diet and my lifestyle.

Dawn Grant (06:04)
sexy.

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (06:27)
and I'll be back in a few months. And my doctor just laughed at me. My doctor said, diet and your lifestyle have nothing to do with your disease. Right? This was 1996. have nothing. I know it's crazy to me. So, so I changed my diet. went from all of that sugar, caffeine, crap food, pizza, frozen yogurt, all the junk I was eating.

Dawn Grant (06:34)
Oh yeah, yeah. Well, there's still some that say that now, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (06:53)
to eating like real food that came out of like the ground, right? It came out of like a farm. Weird concept, actual food. ⁓ And my goiter started shrinking. I lost, I think it was like 18 pounds in four months without even trying. And I go back to the doctor for another blood test and the doctor says, well, you your blood work has changed.

Dawn Grant (06:57)
Yeah, such a concept, right?

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (07:21)
but your thing is still not normal and you gotta take this medication because it's not gonna heal. And I said, okay doc, get that. That's how you've been trained. I said, but I'm gonna continue doing what I'm doing because I feel good. I lost weight, I'm sleeping through the night. My energy is really good. I don't need four cups of coffee a day to get going. I said, I'm gonna continue doing what I'm doing. So I continued doing what I was doing. And for the next two years, I went to a new doctor each time.

Dawn Grant (07:30)
Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (07:49)
just out of curiosity. And each time each of those doctors told me I had a new disease, right? So first it was hypothyroid, no, first it was hyperthyroid. And then the next doctor, was hypothyroid. And then the third doctor, was Hashimoto's thyroiditis. And I was like, ⁓ my thyroid was abnormal and it's been swinging all over the place while it's trying to find balance. I totally get that.

Dawn Grant (07:51)
Mm. Mm-hmm.

⁓ interesting.

Andrea Beaman (08:17)
My goiter's shrinking. In 18 months, it completely disappeared. And within two years, my thyroid was completely normal. And that was almost 30 years ago, and it's been completely normal ever since. So ⁓ that was my step into the world of natural healing. And while I was working at MTV and I healed my thyroid, I just kept getting this little blip. Like, you gotta go out and teach people this. You know, like they have to know that there's another way.

Dawn Grant (08:41)
Hmm. Mm-hmm.

Right.

Andrea Beaman (08:45)
You know, that

there's another way they don't have to be a victim to disease and they don't have to be a victim of our medical system that is not designed for health and healing. It's designed to keep you in a revolving door of sickness. ⁓ And so that was how I got started.

Dawn Grant (09:00)
Right.

That's a great story and a great journey. ⁓

I think it's really funny that you thought, okay, if I ever get sick, or when, or if, or whatever, but meanwhile, I'm gonna go ahead and just do what I've always done, not really thinking preventative at that point, right? Yeah, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (09:14)
Mm-hmm. That's right.

That's right.

No, that's not the way I'm

programmed. And I don't think that's the way that the majority of people are programmed. We're programmed to wait for the sickness and then make the move. Right? Mostly wait for the sickness to be discovered and then make the change. Wait for the disease to be uncovered and then take the medication, then do the surgery. Right? We're programmed that way. So, ⁓ I totally get it. I, you know, it's like, it's yeah.

Dawn Grant (09:30)
Right.

Yeah,

but that's the Western way, right? Even if we're like, oh, well, I don't wanna go that medicine way if I get sick. However, my mind is still Westernized and I'm only gonna do something if I need the treatment, right? So it's like two layers that I'm seeing. One is here's the tools for

Andrea Beaman (09:55)
Yeah, that's right.

Mm-hmm.

It's crazy, right?

Dawn Grant (10:22)
wellness used for healing, but they could be used on the front end too, right, for general, for wellness. So you never even have those issues. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (10:31)
Yeah, that's right. It could be used preventatively to prevent

disease from occurring in the first place. Or when you actually get a disease or a condition, your body is better able to take care of it because it's in a healthier state. Yeah, but we're not programmed that way.

Dawn Grant (10:50)
Yeah.

Well, I'm finding it, I don't really know why, but my brain, and it hasn't always been like this, but I did go to preventative in my brain with the reasons, because I haven't, that I know of, I can't think of any. The only thing is I started gaining weight in different places and in ways that I couldn't take it off. About 15 years, couldn't take it off as easily, starting in my early 40s. that was...

you know, a shift. But other than that, I don't know, at some point in my life, I just love life. I really do. And I think that has a lot to do with being a mental trainer and knowing how to live a joyful life, meaning I don't have like worry and stress and regret and I'm human. I might have it, but it's very short term. It's very short lived. I've learned through the years how to manage my mind and my thoughts, right? So my life is good and I'm enjoying it and I...

Andrea Beaman (11:26)
you

Dawn Grant (11:50)
And that doesn't mean there isn't challenges. It just means I know how to keep myself in a good state of mind. So life is really enjoyable. the point is, at some moment I decided, my goal, my intention is to live a long, healthy, active, loving, joy-filled, just amazing life for as long as I can. There's so many elements to that. I don't wanna be, ideally,

I prefer to not be 90 and crippled and barely able to do things, right? So it's not really just I wanna live a long life. I wanna live a long, healthy, active life with joy and with great experiences. And so if I start putting all that together, then somehow I knew that I needed to take care of myself with eating properly. ⁓

Andrea Beaman (12:24)
Yes, that's correct.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Dawn Grant (12:48)
and exercising and hydrating properly and like all these different elements and fortunately my I got married earlier this year and he was totally Western not having exposed at all to any outside thinking and so it's only been for him like the last five years of exposure to that by default of living with me and

Andrea Beaman (13:02)
So.

Wow.

you

Dawn Grant (13:16)
But it's cool

because he's learning and he's getting on board and he's feeling better and he's got, know, because you can't just, it's not like, this had to be his own journey so it's not like it happened overnight that all of sudden he was eating better. But now he's making these healthier choices by his own free will and seeing the results of it in his life and I just think that's cool to watch. And I'm sure with what you're doing, you're seeing.

Andrea Beaman (13:21)
Hmm. ⁓

it's totally cool.

Dawn Grant (13:45)
that all the time, right, with your clients? Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (13:48)
all the time.

Speaking of husbands, I'll give you a good example. ⁓ When I first met my husband, ⁓ he's six years younger than me. I'm 58. He's going to be 53, I think, this year. But when I first met him, I was ⁓ a little kid, right? 36 years old. And we would walk around the city and he would always complain about pain in his hips.

Dawn Grant (14:09)
Right?

Andrea Beaman (14:17)
Right. I'm like, you're 36 years old. And I had already been on my journey for a while. And I said, you know, pain in your hips, ⁓ that's indicating that there could be a potential arthritis coming in the future. ⁓ And this is from understanding the way the meridians work in Chinese medicine. So the pain in the hips and always having to stretch them, that's indicating that there is some arthritis happening in that area. So ⁓ I said that.

Dawn Grant (14:17)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Mm. ⁓

Mm-hmm.

Andrea Beaman (14:47)
that specific on your hips is connected to the health of your gallbladder and that ⁓ your ability to process fats and digest and keep your bones strong and healthy and all that stuff. And he goes, it's so interesting that you say that because he was having these headaches on the back of the head. He was having this pain in his hips. He goes, it's so interesting that you say that because my father and my brother have both had their gallbladders removed. And I said, OK. I said, well, if you're not ⁓ careful, if you don't start now,

Dawn Grant (14:52)
Hmm.

Right.

Andrea Beaman (15:16)
⁓ you'll be right in the operating room, just like your brother and your father. And I think his mother had the gallbladder removed too. He's Cuban, but like everything was fried. There was lots of fried food. So he changed his diet and ⁓ he started eating well and the hips pain and the headache pain went away. And it took about a year, but it went away. It like disappeared.

Dawn Grant (15:21)
Right.

Andrea Beaman (15:42)
So, you now he's 52. He doesn't have any fear of losing his gallbladder or this arthritis coming in. But it was certainly, that's the way that he was headed, right? That's the way, that was the direction that he was headed. So I see this all the time with people and with clients and friends and family and loved ones. Even my brother just contacted me a couple of months ago. He's like, I'm getting all this pain in my hands and.

Dawn Grant (15:53)
Right.

Yes.

Andrea Beaman (16:08)
you know,

he's 65 or 66 years old, all these pains in my hand. And I'm like, okay, we got to stuff cold cereal and milk in the morning, say goodbye to that, you know, do something, eggs, know, ⁓ turkey sausage, something, anything that's just not going to dampen your digestive fire and contribute to this condition that's potentially happening. ⁓ So I see, I see wellness very clearly when the body gets what it needs.

Dawn Grant (16:17)
Yeah.

Yes.

Andrea Beaman (16:37)
And I see sickness very clearly when the body doesn't get what it needs. Right? So the body is this amazing vessel that the human spirit is housed in. And it'll always give us little signs and symptoms. Hey, hello, wake up. This little headache you're waking up with every day. My spirit is not settled inside this vessel because there's some things that are out of balance. So like you said, you want to live a healthy, long life.

Dawn Grant (16:41)
Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (17:07)
my belief system is we are encased in this flesh suit for a period of time while we're here and ⁓ the object or ⁓ the desire of the spirit to be in the body is to have an experience, right? A long experience or a happy experience or an experience while living inside a human body, right?

Dawn Grant (17:27)
Yeah, yeah.

Nice,

yep.

Andrea Beaman (17:35)
So

the healthier and stronger your body is, potentially the greater your experience while you're here, right? ⁓ And on the flip side, there's also a disease when you come in and you have a disease or a condition, that's also an experience that you can have, right? So what's the experience that you want while you're here encased in the human system? What do you want? You want a healthy, happy experience?

Dawn Grant (17:39)
Hmm.

Right.

Right, I agree, yes, yeah.

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (18:04)
You want ⁓ to not be able to get out of bed or just be sitting on the couch and not enjoying everything that this beautiful planet has to offer and the experience as a human being has to offer. You we all have choices. So, you you choose your way that you want to be. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (18:16)
Right.

Yes, yes,

yes. I love all that. I'm a huge spiritual person. I love anything related to spirit and how you explain that being in the physical body and the vehicle. And ideally the vehicle runs well, right? It's got good oil changes. It's got good gas. You don't put crappy gas into that Ferrari. You you put the right fuel in it. my husband is actually 15 years older than me.

And so he's in a little different stage of the bodies and aches and pains and things and have beaten up on his body his whole life. But the doctors he had before he met me, they were just prescribing medicines, right? So he got the cholesterol, the high blood pressure, he's had his gallbladder taken out. ⁓ But what else was there? There's one more, three things I'm sure. But the belly, the visceral fat, I'm like,

Has

he ever talked to you about visceral fat and how it affects, you know, chronic disease and your heart and everything? He's like, no, it's fine. Men my age have that, you know? I'm like, it's not fine. It's worse than any other fat in your body. And, know, it's funny though, because we do, you know, we have an integrative doctor now, but even that doctor smiles at me when I'm like, what about his belly fat?

Andrea Beaman (19:36)
That's correct.

Thank God.

Dawn Grant (19:48)
What about his visceral fat? The other thing that came to my mind, for a little window, he did carnivore ⁓ diet. It was like six months, but he had had arthritis in his hands and it was lumpy. It was very large and swollen and inflamed and everything. That was probably the first really big eye-opening experience for him because when he did the carnivore, that went away.

Andrea Beaman (19:49)
Mmm.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Dawn Grant (20:18)
And

he had had it for years and years and years. And it not only shrunk, but the pain went away too. So ⁓ I just, it's fascinating, but so like, duh, right? When you really stop, you're like, well, duh.

Andrea Beaman (20:21)
Wow.

Yeah, what we

eat becomes a part of our physical body, right? You remember the old adage, you are what you eat? It's true. We literally are walking, talking, breathing food, right? ⁓ And, you know, I think that all of those diets, those trendy diets that are out there, they have some validity and they do work. And mostly I think they work because they take all the junk out. Yeah, whether it's...

Dawn Grant (20:42)
Yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

Right, I agree. I agree, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (21:03)
vegan, carnivore, macrobiotic, know, like whatever it is, goodbye to junk.

Dawn Grant (21:09)
Yes, and it's whole

food, real whole, real food, whole food. Yeah, I agree. I've been seeing that too. That's the pattern or that's the common denominator, right? That's the golden rule. That's amongst them all. Yeah, yeah. There's a...

Andrea Beaman (21:13)
Totally!

Yeah, just take out the junk. Start there. Start there. You you had said that

you gained weight when you were in your 40s. ⁓ And as the digestive system gets compromised, or when the as we go through our change, ⁓ the liver can feel a struggle, right? Because it's got to it's got to metabolize all the hormones. And it's got to it's like ⁓

when you're a teenager and you're going into your hormonal phase, right? There's all this stuff that comes up, sleepless nights and crazy moods, right? Because your body is trying to process all of the flooding of the hormones into the system. And the liver specifically is trying to metabolize and break down and process all of those hormones. So there is this thing that happens when you're younger and you're stronger and you're just going into your body. But when you get older,

Dawn Grant (22:01)
You

Andrea Beaman (22:21)
that process is happening again as you go into menopause. You're having this breakdown of the hormones, this flooding of this other hormones. The liver becomes compromised. It gets tired. And when the liver gets tired, the digestion slows. The lymphatic system slows. Everything slows. Right? So ⁓ I think that menopause is a great teacher for women to slow down. Right? Slow down, relax.

Dawn Grant (22:25)
Mm.

Mmm.

Mmm. Yeah.

Hmm.

Andrea Beaman (22:50)
Nourish yourself more deeply. Don't take so much on and start to coast into your wise woman age. You're elder, right? And I know that it's so hard to think about the elder phase because women have been conditioned and programmed to think that aging is a bad thing for women. It's bad thing. I know we're not allowed to age.

Dawn Grant (22:59)
Yeah.

Hmm. Yeah, I know it's crazy

Andrea Beaman (23:19)
We're not allowed to get gray hair. We're not allowed to get wrinkles. We're not allowed to gain a little weight. We're just not allowed. It's bad. ⁓ But, you know, the truth is as women move beyond their fertility, they move into their wise woman stage. ⁓ it's a slow down, digest, relax, digest your physical food and your emotional experiences, right? ⁓

Dawn Grant (23:22)
hahahaha ⁓

Yeah, for sure.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (23:49)
It's a good one. love my menopause. But in general, I watched all my friends go through it too, and I'm like, wow, who is taking the hormones? Who didn't?

Dawn Grant (23:58)
Yeah, right. You know, oddly, I'll be 56 this year. I'm not even pre or perimenopause or anything according to my blood work. But not to say my hormones definitely weren't shifting through my 40s and continue to. ⁓ But I was gonna say, I was suspicious more at that time about I just had screwed up my metabolism right crazy. Because most of my, ⁓

Andrea Beaman (24:11)
Mm.

Well, maybe.

Dawn Grant (24:27)
know, my late 20s and 30s raising my kids when they were young, I was running out the door and not eating breakfast. You know, I was grabbing a granola bar, throwing it in my purse for lunch, and then I would see clients through the afternoon, and so that far I was skipping. So I didn't really have breakfast. I had a granola bar for lunch. And you know, I picked my kids up, grabbed them, then bring them to after school activities and probably grab a coffee, you know, and then I'm...

Andrea Beaman (24:47)
Wow.

Dawn Grant (24:55)
like starving and eating whatever at dinner. Like that was day after day for a long time. I just felt like I probably really threw my metabolism out of black. One of the books that I read was Hayley Pomeroy's Fast Metabolism Diet. And she uses the word diet as an acronym, Did I Eat Today? And that one hurt that, it just really hit home. When I read that one, I was like, this one reminds me of me. It's like,

Andrea Beaman (25:05)
Yes.

That's great.

Mm.

Dawn Grant (25:23)
is

that skipping the meals and eating whatever I could grab and thinking it was all right, because it was a granola bar, you know, or grabbing a yogurt in the morning and thinking that was all right, because it was a yogurt, you know, ⁓ which is crazy. And I'm glad our society is shifting. Like there's so much more health, real, real health food available now, right? I mean, it's more than ever.

Andrea Beaman (25:45)
Yeah. Yep.

Dawn Grant (25:49)
I mean, granted, other than going to just eating on the farm, whole food, but I just think it's so great for us now and for these younger generations that you can go in the grocery store and you can get organic and you can ⁓ get these different options that there's just so many more healthy options. Versus, there was a window of time where...

Andrea Beaman (26:03)
Yes.

That's correct.

Dawn Grant (26:15)
marketing was like fat free or low fat, you know, but then they added a bunch of crap to it. And so it was, it was fake, fake good for you, right? Fake good for you. wasn't really good for you. And yeah.

Andrea Beaman (26:17)
you

Yeah, yeah.

No, it was still

crap. was just good marketing.

Dawn Grant (26:31)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm curious, because what path did you go down to start studying? You decided that was the direction you wanted to go in after you started getting better, right, and healing yourself. So then you started studying, mm-hmm.

Andrea Beaman (26:46)
Yeah, yeah, I started

studying, at first it was macrobiotics, right? Because that's the first thing that I knew in the realm of health and wellness. So it started with macrobiotics and using food as medicine. And then studying all of the components that brought macrobiotics together. It was a combination of Japanese medicine, German medicine, Chinese medicine. And I was like, wow, this stuff is fascinating.

Dawn Grant (26:53)
Mm.

Okay.

Andrea Beaman (27:15)
So then I started to study the five elements and I started to study herbs and I started to study energetic healing and anything alternative that crossed my path that I was excited about or that like, was like, I should learn about that. I learned about the chakras. learned about, you know, like anything that had to do with alternative health and healing. I was like, I wanna learn about that and I wanna learn about that. So, and I'm still a perpetual learner. Like I love.

Dawn Grant (27:20)
Mm.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (27:42)
I love just reading and understanding and applying it, right? Because that's where the rubber meets the road when you take it out of the book and you apply it to real life and real flesh and blood. ⁓ So for me, it started with getting into the kitchen and learning how to cook, right? Learning how to actually cook food, like real food, not like plop something into the microwave, right? Open up a can.

Dawn Grant (27:42)
Yeah, yeah, I get that.

Mm-hmm.

Mmm.

Right.

Andrea Beaman (28:11)
Yeah,

it was like literally understanding food and energetically how it impacts the system. So for me, food as medicine is not just a phrase. It's literally how can that food be used to shift the body into a different state of being? Whether it's cooked food, raw food, salted food, spiced food, right? What does it do physically to the body to shift it and make it move in a different direction?

Dawn Grant (28:24)
Right.

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (28:41)
⁓

yeah, so, ⁓ that's, that's my first love is, ⁓ actually using food as medicine, you know, and understanding it on a deeper level so that it's not just something that I put into my pie hole, but I know that there is, is something happening physically to my system. Cause everything is energy. I'm energy, your energy, this tea that I just drank was energy. ⁓

Dawn Grant (28:56)
Pile.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (29:09)
you know, everything is energy and it has, energy never dies, it just transforms, it just changes form, right? So ⁓ my husband was complaining of, ⁓ he was feeling low energy and he had a little headache this morning. So the tea that I made was like licorice root with calendula flowers and lemon balm, which is antiviral. ⁓ I put in Shizandra berries, right? Five flavored berry to help the organ systems.

Dawn Grant (29:14)
Right.

Gosh,

Andrea Beaman (29:38)
So the T was, oh, and a little

Dawn Grant (29:38)
I love that

Andrea Beaman (29:39)
oat straw to calm his nervous system, because he's like a nervous nilly.

Dawn Grant (29:44)
So do you have like all these herbs and little jars? I love that.

Andrea Beaman (29:48)
yeah, yeah, that's my apothecary. Like some people open up a, you

know, in their bathroom, they'll open up the cabinet and they have all these different pills. You go into my kitchen and I have a fully stocked kitchen with everything. And on the side of the kitchen, I have a whole apothecary of loose herbs that I use for anything that comes up because that's medicine.

Dawn Grant (29:55)
Yeah.

⁓

my gosh, I love that.

Andrea Beaman (30:12)
You know, like even if you look at pharmaceutical medicines, the vast majority were originally derived from plants. So for me, I am like, okay, I go right to the plant. I cut out all the chemical nonsense. I go right to the plant.

Dawn Grant (30:18)
Yeah.

Right? Oh

my gosh. know that that's not my path. Like I'll never sit down and learn all those, but I would love it. I would love to have that and know it, but I know I'll never do that. That's so cool. Yeah, like I'll buy the pack that says ginger tea, you know, or something. It helps, you know, with whatever. I believe in it. I believe in it.

Andrea Beaman (30:43)
Yeah.

Well, that's good.

then your job would be to continue doing what you do best and then hire the people that do that other stuff. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (30:56)
Yeah, I agree,

for sure. I love that. There's an acupuncturist in the town close to me and he has a wall of glass jars, but it's all the little funky stuff, right? Because it's Eastern medicine, so it's like certain kinds of mushrooms and all. yeah.

Andrea Beaman (31:11)
Yes. Mushrooms, roots, tubers, everything.

It's all good stuff.

Dawn Grant (31:20)
Yeah, I've always thought that was

cool. I used to share an office with him. I would do my hypnotherapy in that office and he would have acupuncture clients. ⁓ That's awesome. So you learned a little bit of everything related to holistic alternative, which I mean as a hypnotist of course I love that.

Hypnosis is pretty alternative. It's still trying, you know, everybody even believes in it or accepts it, but that's all right with me. I know what it does.

Andrea Beaman (31:51)
yeah.

I believe that people can be programmed and reprogrammed in the blink of an eye if they are open and receptive to it. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (32:01)
Yeah, yeah, I've seen it over and over again. Yeah.

Do you see working with people how they get hung up in their beliefs in their habits? So you can teach them something right at a conscious level, it makes sense and they're nodding but be able to get that information where they're more easily implementing it or getting moving past beliefs and such. That's where the hypnosis works really well.

Andrea Beaman (32:11)
Yes.

Yeah, well, you

know, we need that because there are so many beliefs that have been instituted that are not true. Right? For whatever reason, for marketing, you know, like ⁓ somebody sitting in front of their TV for three hours a night and getting bombarded by commercials right there on that subconscious level, they're absorbing that information into their system and it's creating a narrative. And ⁓

Dawn Grant (32:35)
Yeah.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (32:56)
I think that once people come aware that there is another narrative playing inside their system that they may not even be aware of, then you can make some changes. So thank God for you, you get in there and you're looking at the system from a different perspective and helping them. So there was a great book that I read, ⁓ gosh, it had to be 20 years ago. It was called The Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton.

Dawn Grant (33:05)
Yeah, yes.

Yeah.

that's

one of my favorites. I have all my clients read that one. Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (33:27)
Loved it. It's such a good book. So when

I first met my husband, ⁓ we were dating and I was sitting at my computer one night and I felt a little pain in my left breast. And I was like, gosh, that's weird. And the pain just started to get worse. And I'm health and wellness and I'm all that stuff. ⁓ then like about four months later,

a lump appeared, like a lump in my breast. And I'm at the computer, you know, because this is where I work from since, you know, since, I don't know, 2012, I work from the computer. he comes over and he's like, whoa, he's like, that's a lump. He goes, you got to go to the doctor. Like, that is a lump in your breast and your mother died of breast cancer. You got to go to the doctor. And I said,

Dawn Grant (33:58)
Mmm ⁓

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, I got it. I get it.

Andrea Beaman (34:25)
I said, even if I go to the doctor, I'm not going to do radiation and chemotherapy. And that's what kind of recommend. And I said, I understand that my mother had breast cancer, but our mother didn't have breast cancer. So ⁓ I think I just need to change or shift some belief systems in my own system that, that I don't, I don't have breast cancer, right?

Dawn Grant (34:46)
Right.

Andrea Beaman (34:47)
So I sat at the time I was reading Bruce Lipton's book and I was like I'm gonna just do this belief thing I'm so I sat in meditation every morning and And I did a meditation because I'm fun and playful So I did a playful meditation where I envisioned this was a pinball a gum ball, know, it's old-fashioned gumball machines that you So I envisioned this as a gumball and I would sit in meditation I would watch it whirling around my body and then going

Dawn Grant (34:51)
Nice.

Yes.

Andrea Beaman (35:12)
out into the poop shooter, right? So I did this every morning when I'd sit there and I'd be in a really good space in my mind and thinking about this. And the first week my husband goes, goes, listen, you gotta stop this nonsense and you gotta go to the doctor. And I said, no, no, I said, I feel like it's getting smaller. So the second week, then you could notice that it was getting smaller. And he was my boyfriend at the time. He goes, okay, yeah.

Dawn Grant (35:36)
Nice!

Andrea Beaman (35:41)
does feel like it's getting smaller. Third week, even smaller. Fourth week, even smaller. By the fifth week, it was the size of a pinhead. And in my meditation, I'm sitting and I'm about to pop the thing out with the gumball going down. But when it popped out, it just disappeared. And I was like, oh, that thing is gone, whatever it was. I don't know what it was, and I don't care what it was. It's gone out of my system, and it never came back.

Dawn Grant (36:02)
Yes.

Andrea Beaman (36:09)
So I'm a believer in ⁓ the biology of our belief.

Dawn Grant (36:09)
I love that.

Well, you know what I

love about that too is that you meditated every morning on this, you have the same visualization and it changed itself, right? It popped into nothing. You didn't decide consciously on that day that today when I do this visualization, I'm going to make it disappear. That happened in meditation and that's the body like, or the spirit communicating to you and that's the stuff that I really love because

Andrea Beaman (36:27)
Yes.

Yes.

That's correct.

Dawn Grant (36:46)
When I have somebody in hypnosis, first of all, prior to hypnosis, we'll have a conscious level conversation. They might say, I've had this fear of bridges my whole life, or it started when I was 20, when I went over the Dames Point Bridge and I couldn't get over all the way. And I'm always like, uh-huh, uh-huh. Because I know that's their conscious level, right? So I'll take notes, but in hypnosis, and they're not.

unconscious, they're not asleep, they're half and half, right? They're in a meditative state, exactly as you said. You're in a half awake, half asleep meditative state. And so I can ask them a question, they'll answer me. And all of a sudden this much more insightful information comes through, or something totally different, or just the light bulb moments, or my own meditations, my own visualizations.

Andrea Beaman (37:29)
Hmm.

Dawn Grant (37:39)
I'll have certain intentions consciously, but then something else happens in the meditation. And it's not outrageous. It feels peaceful. It feels normal. It feels fine. It's usually in retrospect that I'm like, wait, what? That was different. And I didn't plan it that way. It just came around that way. yeah, I'm a firm believer that that's who we're communicating with is our soul and our spirit, our higher self.

Andrea Beaman (38:03)
Yes.

Dawn Grant (38:06)
And it's so insightful, it's so powerful. And when we stop the ego mind, right, quieting that by going into that meditative state, we're in direct communication. we're basically, you know, cause as the spirit, there's no time, right? And on this planet, we have the buffer of time. So in my opinion, when I'm communicating with spirit,

Andrea Beaman (38:10)
Yes.

Dawn Grant (38:35)
from a meditative space. And this is what I really think hypnosis is also, the suggestions, is I'm basically saying, hey, I'd like this. And in spirit form, it would be instantly manifested, because there's no buffer of time. Spirit's like, got it, I've manifested it, it exists. And now you just have to let go or believe it exists also, you know? And...

That's why it seems like a miracle because we're so used to things taking longer and struggling and trying to make it happen and consciously working at it and it may or may not succeed and it's hard and it's a challenge and struggle. That's all conscious level. But once we tap into that more meditative state, which subconscious or directly communicating without interference to my spirit, great stuff happens quickly.

Andrea Beaman (39:29)
Yeah.

Dawn Grant (39:30)
Yeah, and that's

what you had. I just love that your little visualization changed on its own. ⁓ Yes.

Andrea Beaman (39:37)
Yeah. Yeah. I didn't change it.

Life is good. Life is good, Dawn. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (39:44)
It's so enjoyable when

you can come at it from that angle of enjoying it and seeing the serendipities and the cool things that occur and yeah, it's very enjoyable. So you start learning all these different things and then what, just started your own private practice and.

Andrea Beaman (40:08)
Well, ⁓ I guess I was about, ⁓ after I healed myself, my dad had said to me, goes, you know, you're learning all this stuff. He goes, why don't you go to medical school? And I said, no, medical school doesn't call to me because four different doctors couldn't help me. You know, they gave me ⁓ misinformation, right? What they were trained in, which was not what healed me.

Dawn Grant (40:27)
Mm. Mm.

Right, got you, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (40:37)
So I said, I'm going to try and find another type of school. So I found a health coaching school in New York. It was called Gulliver's. It's now the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. ⁓ And I went to that school and I attended that school and I became a health coach and ⁓ I continued my studies. And then as a health coach, I started teaching. I just took my health coach, ⁓

degree, which is not, not considered valid in the world of medicine. Right. I took my degree and I started. It's not like, yeah, it's not, it's not accredited by the government or whatever. ⁓ my God. I swear the more, the more accreditation that you have, the more college, the more.

Dawn Grant (41:11)
Right, now I got you, yeah. It's not an accredited college, right? Yeah, whatever. It matters less and less, doesn't it? It really, really does.

Andrea Beaman (41:32)
the more programmed you are into that system of belief. You know, I mean, just look what happened in 2020, right? The smartest people in the world with the most education in the world, they had no clue what was going on. ⁓ So I started doing ⁓ cooking classes in my home and I started teaching people how to cook and I would just hold these classes every month and then...

Dawn Grant (41:34)
Yes.

Yes.

Yeah.

okay.

Andrea Beaman (41:59)
⁓ and then I started to do classes online and then I, you know, had, ⁓ private clients and then I would have group coaching sessions and, ⁓ and then I took my, all my information and I put it up. You know, my husband was really smart back 2012. He's like, Hey, listen, he's like back then he goes, you should take all your stuff and put it up online. Cause I was teaching in-person classes in New York city. And so I did, I put all my classes up online.

Dawn Grant (42:26)
Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (42:29)
And I started teaching food as medicine programs. I started teaching thyroid health programs. started teaching my new Healers Master Coaching Program, which is understanding the body from an ancient perspective. And then in 2022, actually the beginning of 2020, yeah, maybe 2022, I decided to build an online community, which is all health, all the time, alternative health, wellness.

Dawn Grant (42:35)
Mm.

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (42:57)
cooking classes, you name it, it's everything healthy. I hire experts to come in and speak to the community every month. I've had cardiologists, dentists, all holistically minded come into the community to give alternative perspectives to my community base to give them the confidence that they're making the right choices. Because there's so much information out there and people question, am I making the right choice by not

Dawn Grant (43:02)
you

Yes.

Mmm.

Andrea Beaman (43:26)
taking this statin drug or not taking, right? They question themselves because there's so much information out there that it's against that, right? So inside my community, I bring in all the experts and we do a lot of fun stuff so that people could gain the confidence and they could feel more secure in their own decisions, right? Yeah, because you know, like, ⁓

Dawn Grant (43:29)
I know, right?

Contradictory information. Yeah. Yeah

Nice.

Nice.

Andrea Beaman (43:51)
I believe in health and wellness from multifaceted understanding, right? So not everything is gonna work for all people, but I like to give people the freedom to choose. Let me try this, let me try, without any fear, right? So it's, I have a couple of communities growing, like one has 180 people in it, that's my health is wealth community. And then I had just started another community, a thyroid community, because there are so many people being diagnosed.

Dawn Grant (43:55)
Yes. Yeah.

Right.

Yes.

Andrea Beaman (44:21)
with thyroid disease, it's crazy and ⁓ it's not necessarily true, right? In ancient medicine, just an aside, in ancient medicine, the thyroid or the fifth chakra is connected with your ability to speak truth and to hear truth and understand truth. So it's of no ⁓ surprise to me that thyroid disease is one of the hottest diseases because the people that are running the world don't want you to know truth.

Dawn Grant (44:22)
Yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Nice.

Right.

Right, right, right.

Andrea Beaman (44:50)
They don't want you to

understand that there are other ways to heal, right? There's this system that's in place, this dinosaur of a system that's in place. ⁓ And if you get out of that system, then they lose a lot of money.

Dawn Grant (45:05)
You're making

me think, so I have a friend that, know, I'll see how you would explain it. Like on a scale of one to 10, you've got 10 being I'm obsessed with the integrative health, I learn about it all the time, I constantly learn every day and zero or one is like, I know what the word is but I don't know anything about it. Like she's probably like a five, like she's heard of it, or maybe a four.

Yeah, when she goes to work, she'll bring a yogurt, she'll bring a hard boiled egg, she's bringing ⁓ a drink or two or something like that. She thinks she's eating healthy, she's eating small amounts throughout the day. She comes home though and she's exhausted and she engorges and she drinks wine to relax. And so I'm meeting with her for coffee and she's like...

I'm like, what's, cause she says, I just can't lose this weight and I feel horrible and I know I should be doing things different, but she's in the middle. Like she doesn't really take the time to really dive in and learn. so I'm like, well, what are you taking any supplements? Are you, and she said, no, I stopped all those. Cause my new doctor said he doesn't believe in them and that's a bunch of crap. And I was like, whoa. I'm like, well, what do you believe? Because

Andrea Beaman (46:21)
Yeah.

Dawn Grant (46:22)
Do you believe in, and I'm always like not synthetic supplements, I'm talking about the real deal, know, like real food-based supplements. And I'm like, do you believe in them? She's like, yeah, I'm like, well, then you probably need to switch your doctor because there are people that don't believe in supplements of any kind and that's a perfect doctor for them. They're right on the same page. I'm like, if you believe that, and you would like to eat better and blah, blah, blah, blah, then you should probably find a different doctor because

Andrea Beaman (46:28)
Yeah.

That's correct.

Dawn Grant (46:52)
You, it's not, I mean, I'm that person. don't think it, I don't agree with what that doctor said. So she's like, well, you make me feel so much better. I have all these supplements at home and I should start taking them again. I'm like, well, I don't know which ones you should be taking, but you should talk to somebody that believes, believes in them and start going through them and figure that out and based on your blood work and all. But a few years ago, I have my,

Andrea Beaman (47:06)
Yeah.

That's right.

Dawn Grant (47:20)
I hired a holistic physician and he did really thorough blood work and I loved that. This was kind of my first experience with this really, really thorough blood work, more than what a normal doctor would do. And then he would sit down and he would go through each page and he would say, you know, red yeast works really well for this and cinnamon for this and blah, blah, you know, and he would write and I would go home, I'd buy all that stuff and he would do the same thing with my husband, right? So I would come home.

and I'd buy all these supplements and all these herbs and start taking them and then six months later, eight months later we had blood work again and he'd go through it and he'd be like, berberine or whatever, you need that for this one and make sure you're getting your omegas, know, and I'd be like, okay. And so I'd go home, I'd buy more, but I never stopped the other one. This is no joke, after a year or more of this, my husband and I were taking, I have a,

Andrea Beaman (48:12)
you

Dawn Grant (48:18)
box like this of supplements. And so that doctor actually retired, which was fine because he wasn't the type that we could really interact, because I'd asked him. I'm like, listen, here's the long list that I've accumulated after all of these meetings with you. And which ones should we be taking, which ones should we not be taking? And he didn't respond, he didn't schedule, and I was like, this is not gonna work. ⁓ the physician we have now is direct care. we're like a membership. I don't know, this is new to me.

Andrea Beaman (48:18)
Yeah.

Hehehehehe

Yeah.

Dawn Grant (48:48)
but she's available anytime I want her. And she studied under Dr. Wheel, which is one of my favorite, yeah, Dr. Wheel and Furman were my two that I would go to to try to understand and learn and all that. when I saw that she studied under him, I was like, okay, checkbox. But ⁓ yeah, she is the one that helped us to narrow that down and such. I think that's one of the...

Andrea Beaman (48:54)
I like Andrew Weill. Yeah, I like him a lot.

Yeah.

Dawn Grant (49:16)
think a large percentage of people are somewhere, they're not at the eight, nine, and 10, right? They're either just newly exposed, somewhat exposed, don't know what doctors to believe and not believe, and... ⁓

Andrea Beaman (49:22)
Yeah.

They're just dipping their toes in. Yeah.

Dawn Grant (49:34)
Yeah, yeah.

And they're even more confused, right? Because it's confusing enough, right, Andrea, when you study it, because on the internet you can find arguments for either side of anything. So that in itself, you have to really dive in and dig.

Andrea Beaman (49:39)
Yeah.

That's right.

Well, you gave

your friend great advice when you said, do you believe? Right? That was great advice because I believe personally that we all have wisdom inside of us. Right? We all know what we need, just like every other creature on the planet knows exactly what they need, but we've been disconnected from that. Right? So when you turn around and tell her, well, what do you believe? She has to go inside and say, well, what do I believe?

Dawn Grant (49:56)
Yeah.

Mm, mm-hmm.

Yes.

Yeah.

Andrea Beaman (50:20)
She

has to question, she has to ⁓ tap into her inner self, her inner guide, her inner spirit. And I think that makes the biggest difference in people's lives. And it doesn't mean that...

Even taking all the supplements and all that stuff and then taking them, it doesn't mean that you question that. You don't question that when you're in the hands of somebody that believes in the stuff that you believe. Still continue to question. Like, okay, I've been taking this for three months. Is this really good for me? ⁓ And when my clients question stuff or they're like, should I continue taking this? I'm like, I want you to sit in meditation and I want you to ask your heart.

Dawn Grant (50:49)
Right, right.

Mm-hmm.

⁓

nice, yeah. Right.

Andrea Beaman (51:05)
Right? Because the heart knows. The mind will

spin out of control with all this science that's right. You ask your heart, is this fish oil good for me at this time in my life? Right? And your heart will give you the answer. It may not give it to you right then and there, but somewhere in your day or in your life or in your week or in your month, you'll get the answer that you need, the exact answer, whatever it is. But we have to get ⁓

Dawn Grant (51:12)
Yeah.

Nice, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (51:32)
more closely connected to our inner self.

Dawn Grant (51:35)
Yeah, and you know what? You're making me think of something else and trusting that something else. Because we all, you're tuned, we are all tuned into our higher selves all day long. Greater consciousness, you're plugged in. The chatter is usually louder than that spiritual voice, right? And to me,

Andrea Beaman (51:45)
Yeah.

Dawn Grant (51:54)
I like to think of it as like a little angel and a little devil and the little devil is loud and obnoxious and rude and fear-based and and that's what we tend to listen to and the little angel which is really our higher self or spiritual self or connected to greater consciousness it's gentle and it's just it was just it's almost like a whisper in my mind and so when we meditate we're we're quieting that chatter and that's when we can hear

Andrea Beaman (51:57)
you

Yes.

Dawn Grant (52:24)
the little angel, your higher self better. But that voice is there all day. And then what I'm thinking about is, ⁓ this is maybe the last four nights or so, I've noticed throughout the night, you know, I'm kind of half awake or waking in the morning that my throat is dry. But I'm drinking a great amount of water throughout the day and I do really great electrolytes. so I'm...

Andrea Beaman (52:41)
Mm.

Dawn Grant (52:52)
Consciously, I've been like half awake in the middle of the night, why is my throat so dry? And the little quiet voice is like, you're not taking your omegas, you haven't taken your fat. And I've been ignoring it, but it said it to me more than once, and I haven't followed through on it, because I'm like, well, I gotta talk to my doctor, you know? Why, why do I feel dehydrated or dry? And I'm like,

Andrea Beaman (53:15)
Hmm.

Dawn Grant (53:20)
What you just said to me made me realize the quiet voice has been telling me what to do. I'm feeling it right now in my throat. yeah, I drink, I'm right around 155, 160 pounds. I drink at least 80 ounces of water. And one of those, like LMNT electrolytes. I pour one of those in. And other than that, I might add some BCAA if I've exercised, I drink teas.

Andrea Beaman (53:22)
Yes.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Yeah.

Dawn Grant (53:50)
Maybe one cup of decaf a day. Yeah, so the the fluid is proper in my opinion, but ⁓ Yeah, isn't that interesting? I'm gonna go take my omegas

Andrea Beaman (54:01)
That is interesting.

Listen to that voice. ⁓

Dawn Grant (54:06)
Right?

So true. And it's there all the time for everything. It's not just our health, right? It's our wellness. It's guidance for making healthy decisions based on the life we want to live, period. Whatever our goals and desires are. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Where are you based out of?

Andrea Beaman (54:12)
Yes.

Yeah.

Yes, Yeah, whether it's for work, for love, right, for anything. Yeah.

New York.

Dawn Grant (54:35)
Is it still New York City?

Andrea Beaman (54:37)
Unfortunately, no. My husband pulled

me kicking and screaming out of New York City two years ago. We're now, ⁓ what I call upstate, it's up the Hudson River. It's maybe 50 minutes outside of Manhattan. So I could still go and get all my stuff in Manhattan and I could have brunch with my girlfriends. Yeah, but in a much quieter space. And I miss...

Dawn Grant (54:42)
Right.

Right.

Okay.

⁓ yeah, yeah.

Yes.

Andrea Beaman (55:07)
the energy of New York. know, like New York is what I believe a base chakra on the planet. It's ⁓ very high energy. It's ⁓ survival. ⁓ You've got to know how to survive in New York. And I'm a native New Yorker. So I'm used to it. And because I'm self-employed, I was able to go to Central Park every single day. I didn't have to like deal with the subways and the traffic. So it was like, you know, I work from home and then I go to Central Park and hang out.

Dawn Grant (55:17)
Right.

Right.

lovely, yeah.

Andrea Beaman (55:35)
